CYQG Windsor Airport for MSFS: Native Builds, Features and Installation Guide

CYQG Windsor International Airport is an airport scenery add-on with separate native builds for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. It recreates the terminal, hangars, airfield surfaces, lighting, and airport surroundings. Both builds are included in the download, but each must be installed in its matching simulator.

Why the airport detail matters at CYQG

CYQG rewards the part of a flight spent near the ground. Custom pavement markings, surface wear, hangars, fencing, and parked vehicles give the apron and airport surroundings more to look at while you taxi or explore with the camera. The separate native simulator builds also let you choose the package designed for your version of MSFS before your first arrival.

What is modeled at Windsor International Airport?

The scenery covers the main terminal and all hangars, including several new-construction buildings. Handcrafted buildings use PBR materials, while the airfield receives custom ground textures, Canadian runway markings, surface dirt and cracks, taxiways, and signage.

There is detail around the airport perimeter as well. The listed features include a solar farm, interior and exterior perimeter fences, ground vehicles, and parking lots with custom cars. These are useful subjects for a slower ground-level inspection after arrival, or a drone-camera tour before departure.

  • Buildings: main terminal and handcrafted hangars, including new construction
  • Airfield surfaces: custom textures, markings, dirt, and cracks
  • Lighting: custom taxiway and runway lights, plus lighting throughout the airport
  • Surroundings: solar farm, fencing, ground vehicles, parking lots, and cars

Which version should I install?

The download contains a native FS20 build and a native FS24 build. Select the one that matches the simulator you are using. The two files are not cross-compatible, so a 2020 package should not be treated as the 2024 package, or vice versa.

For the direct store download, the general installation workflow is to unzip the package, open PackagesContent, and copy the scenery folder into the Community folder. Use the installation guide alongside the build labels in your download so that the correct airport package goes into the correct simulator.

A useful arrival and departure checklist

Before beginning a simulator flight, confirm that you have installed the matching native build. Set your starting position, then take a moment to inspect the terminal, apron, and taxiway surfaces. The cockpit-level screenshot below shows how the ground markings and cracks contribute at taxiing height.

For a scenery-focused session, try a daylight departure and an evening return to compare the airfield's surface detail with its runway, taxiway, and building lighting. A separate drone-camera look around the perimeter is a good way to find details that may be less prominent during a normal approach.

Frequently asked questions

Are MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 both included?

Yes. Your download includes both native builds. Install the file for the simulator you intend to use; the files are not interchangeable.

Why did MSFS place me on a different runway?

The product page notes that MSFS ATC can override the selected runway. Its recommended setting is Settings > Assistance > “ATC Enforce Flight Plan” set to ON to retain the selected runway.

Does this airport include the Detroit and Windsor city pack?

The airport and Detroit and Windsor city scenery are separate products. CYQG focuses on the airport, while the city pack covers buildings, landmarks, bridges, and waterfront scenery.

Is the detailing limited to the terminal?

No. The hangars, custom airfield surfaces and lighting, perimeter solar farm, fences, vehicles, and parking areas are also listed features.
